This variety was donated by Dennis Derksen, who got it from his parents, who received it from a sister-in-law, Anna Derksen. The pepper is from Anna??s family; it came to the U.S. from Russia in the 1850s with German Mennonites who settled near Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Dennis?? wife Mary cans pickled green peppers which have a special place at meals during family gatherings and holidays.
